A Note from Susie

Hello Susie,

Happy New Year!

I know it’s a few weeks old now, but this is the first e-zine from me this year and so I didn’t want to miss this opportunity to say I hope you had a great time over the Christmas festivities in whatever form they took, and are all set and ready for the bright and shiny year ahead of us!

The new Fab Four!

We finished the basic introduction to all the chakras, which we went through each month during 2017, and so we will start a new subject to take us through the coming year - featured in The Susie Zone.

Since so many of my readers are all around the world, I thought it might be interesting to dig a little deeper into the history of the United Kingdom, and explore historic palaces, castles, and other places of note – perhaps cathedrals – especially as we have a special Royal Wedding happening in Windsor this year!

HRH Prince Harry is to marry his beloved Meghan Markle from America in May and it just felt right to include some historic facts in this feature this year.

Up above, I included a picture of what is being heralded as the New Fab Four! with HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. You can see the new generation who will be taking the Royal Family through the 21st Century; they are pictured on the steps of St. George’s Windsor, which is rumoured to be where Prince Harry and Meghan will marry.

I hope you will enjoy reading about the various places we’ll visit.

Also this month, my featured article is the first in an "early 2018" series about making a fresh start.

For now, I would like to remind you that you have the opportunity of a free 30-minute consultation with me to discuss where you are in your life, what problems you may be facing, and to discover how I may help you. To that end, I invite you to click on my Skype link or email me to schedule a time to get together.

My solo offering, Colour Your Legacy!, somehow went breach in the birth canal, and did not arrive in the operating theatre before Christmas… This has to be the longest breach canal birth ever as it is still stuck.  It is still requiring forcible induction by Viki (!) and is scheduled for the beginning of February. I promise that I will give you the date as soon as I can bear to let it go! It is so exposing to let so much of myself go public and I just hope all this talk and excitement will have been worth the wait!

I always hope that you consider this an online magazine – your personal ezine - which is equal to one of your favourite monthly glossies that you purchase from your local newsagent or newsstand.  This is why I always try to make it as interesting and different for you to be able to dip in and out of.

Once again, let me know your thoughts as I always enjoy hearing from you, but for now sit back, favorite hot (or cold) drink in hand, and settle down for a comfortable chat with a friend.

Loving hugs,

Making a Fresh Start: Embracing New Beginnings - Introduction

by Susie Briscoe

Change that leads to new beginnings can be an exciting time in your life, but it can also be the scariest. Even if your changes are positive in nature such as quitting smoking, going on a healthy diet or changing jobs or career paths, the process can cause upheaval in your life.

You may fear change because of the pending upheavals and run the risk of failing at making positive changes in your life or starting over with a new and exciting lifestyle.

A Fresh Start: Embracing New Beginnings will serve as a life-manual to help you know when fears are holding you back, the power that change can have in all aspects of your life and offers tips on how to embrace the changes and relish your new beginnings.

A Fresh Start

You can’t create new beginnings in your life without change. You may hear nagging thoughts in the back of your mind telling you to stay the same – it’s safer than putting yourself out there and being subjected to ridicule, failure, and any number of things that could harm you.

But, where would we be...  (Click here to access and read the full article.)

The Susie Zone

In this issue's The Susie Zone, I am so excited to introduce a new series - Exploring Historic Palaces, Castles, Cathedrals, Churches, and Homes.

I thought we might start with something a little different and take a look at the home of The Lord Mayor of London and take a look at its history too.

Starting with my personal connections...

The Mansion House

I have done voluntary work for four Lord Mayors of London: Sir Greville Spratt, Sir Christopher Collet, Sir Hugh Bidwell, and Sir Paul Newall. Over these years, I became very familiar with the House, its workings and the marvelous people who hold it all together.

My role was involved with the Lord Mayor’s Annual Charity Appeal and it allowed me a triple ‘A’ (Access All Areas) pass not just to Mansion House (indeed, I stayed several times overnight - a great honour for State visitors), but also the Guildhall of London, The Palace of Westminster, as well as St. Paul’s Cathedral – all places where I held events to raise funds on their behalf. It was tremendous fun and raised significant amounts of money for their respective charities.

The Mansion House Fair, which I chaired, was the first one in its history and the (then) Lord Mayor Spratt had to get special permission to have money exchange hands as it is usually against House rules. In the event we had an amazing day: an organ grinder played a welcome as guests arrived in Walbrook Hall, and then, when they went upstairs to the State Rooms, they were greeted with all manner of circus folk from stilt walkers and clowns, jugglers, and acrobats, Pierrot and Pierrette, as well as lots of stalls selling all manner of things and, of course, A-list celebrities from...

What Others Are Saying

Working with Susie was an amazing experience. I was struggling to move forward on a work-related project for which I had no enthusiasm. Her skillful coaching enabled me to see my situation differently and find the motivation and confidence I needed to tackle the job.

Most importantly she made me realise that when I set my mind to something I can achieve it and that, for me, aiming high and giving my best, are things that can't be compromised.

Being coached by her also taught me much about what good coaching is about, especially how a coach can challenge a client to look beneath the surface, acknowledge what is there and use this insight to make real changes or take fresh action. As a mentor, too, she has been superb. Her outstanding support, guidance and commitment have helped me to take my coaching to a higher level. She has been a fantastic role model, giving so much of herself, and her time, so generously and effectively. Her friendliness, professionalism, warmth, humour and energy have impressed and inspired me again and again.

Thank you Susie. I so much appreciate all you have given me.

Quote of the Week
 Walt Disney

"Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we are curious... and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

~ Walt Disney

Walter "Walt" Elias Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966)

An American entrepreneur, animator, voice actor and film producer.

A pioneer of the American animation industry, he introduced several developments in the production of cartoons. As a film producer, Disney holds the record for most Academy Awards earned by an individual, having won 22 Oscars from 59 nominations. He was presented with two Golden Globe Special Achievement Awards and an Emmy Award, among other honors. Several of his films are included in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

Born in Chicago in 1901, Disney developed an early interest in drawing. He took art classes as a boy and got a job as a commercial illustrator at the age of 18. He moved to California in the early 1920s and set up the Disney Brothers Studio with his brother Roy. With Ub Iwerks, Walt developed the character Mickey Mouse in 1928, his first highly popular success; he also provided the voice for his creation in the early years.

As the studio grew, Disney became more adventurous, introducing synchronized sound, full-color three-strip Technicolor, feature-length cartoons and technical developments in cameras. The results, seen in features such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), FantasiaPinocchio (both 1940), Dumbo (1941) and Bambi (1942), furthered the development of animated film. New animated and live-action films followed after World War II, including the critically successful Cinderella (1950) and Mary Poppins (1964), the latter of which received five Academy Awards.

In the 1950s, Disney expanded into the amusement park industry, and in 1955 he opened Disneyland. To fund the project he diversified into television programs, such as Walt Disney's Disneyland and The Mickey Mouse Club; he was also involved in planning the 1959 Moscow Fair, the 1960 Winter Olympics, and the 1964 New York World's Fair. In 1965, he began development of another theme park, Disney World, the heart of which was to be a new type of city, the "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow" (EPCOT). Disney was a heavy smoker throughout his life, and died of lung cancer in December 1966 before either the park or the EPCOT project were completed.

Disney was a shy, self-deprecating and insecure man in private but adopted a warm and outgoing public persona. He had high standards and high expectations of those with whom he worked. Although there have been accusations that he was racist or anti-Semitic, they have been contradicted by many who knew him. His reputation changed in the years after his death, from a purveyor of homely patriotic values to a representative of American imperialism. He nevertheless remains an important figure in the history of animation and in the cultural history of the United States, where he is considered a national cultural icon. His film work continues to be shown and adapted; his studio maintains high standards in its production of popular entertainment, and the Disney amusement parks have grown in size and number to attract visitors in several countries.
